What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a holistic manual therapy that looks at the body as an interconnection of systems. After any kind of trauma our body wants to spare us from feeling pain so it will adapt and compensate to reduce or eliminate the discomfort. These compensations can lead to tension and discomfort to develop elsewhere in the body. Osteopaths piece together the whole history of what has happened to your body as well as other symptoms that might be related to make sense of why you are in pain. We trace the adaptations back to the root of the problem behind your pain and give a personalised well-rounded treatment. Osteopathic treatment normalizes the body systems targeting tissue imbalances (the form) in hopes to improve their function.

About Me

Iva Rimac Intern in Osteopathy (I.O)

Being a young athlete fascinated by biology, I pursued my studies in exercise science earning my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from McGill University in 2018. My degree emphasized that regular physical activity acts on all body systems and can help prevent and improve certain medical conditions. My curiosity for the body and its adaptative and healing properties is what brought me to enroll at the Centre Osteopathique du Quebec. I am currently working as an intern while finishing my degree in osteopathy, treating active individuals, junior athletes as well as the average person. I am not yet certified to treat pregnant women or babies – coming in 2023. My osteopathic approach addresses structural imbalances to improve mobility and normalize tissue tension between the body systems to prevent the imbalances from reverting. I then prescribe personalized at-home exercises to be done post-treatment to compliment the release achieved and maintain the structural changes.
